Psychiatric Care with a Thoughtful Approach

I jumped at the opportunity for my daughter to do TMS. We were at the end of options and she was still depressed. After worrying about losing here for almost 2 years, I finally saw my girl back. After TMS, she was talking, smiling, laughing, going outside and had hopes and dreams for the future. I remember thinking to myself “I want to feel that way!” After my daughter was doing so much better…. I realized how depressed I was. I didn’t have the distraction of worrying about her all the time. I finally thought about myself and it wasn’t good. I would cry everyday on the way to work. I felt overwhelmed with everything and nothing at all at the same time. I thought about not wanting to be here but fought hard for my kids. I was tired. Yet, I couldn’t do anything to make myself feel better. I was on the highest dose of mediation and limited on what I could take due to another medication I was taking. So, I made the decision to try TMS for myself. My daughter said I would have headaches the first week. I didn’t, and I was worried that it wasn’t going to work. Slowly over the first half of the seven weeks I started to feel lighter. I felt like the weight was taken off me and the cloud hanging over me was lifting. The weeks after that just got better and better. I don’t cry on my way to work… only on my way home after a bad day! I am able to handle situations easier and without feeling overwhelmed and snapping at people. I’m not as laugh and silly as my teenage daughter because I have adult responsibilities. However due to TMS, I am able to do all if these things with ease. I am able to feel good about everything I do and get so much more accomplished. My daughter and I have plans someday to be able to share our story with high school staff, students and parents and help many more teens.

I have been on my mental health journey since I was fifteen years old. I was referred to Lighthouse Mental Wellness by my therapist before COVID. I am so grateful to have found an amazing group of professionals who make me feel comfortable and supported. I would not be where I am today without them.

When Brian first mentioned TMS to me I was very skeptical because I have tried many different treatments to relieve my depression and anxiety. I have attempted Western and holistic medicine. I was very emotional and I dipped pretty quickly, but being in the office every day helped a lot because I had an amazing support team. The first two weeks I had a headache and my head was sore but Advil helped a lot. After the first two weeks, I was used to the pulses and I started to feel so much better. People around me were noticing a difference saying that my aura was lighter and happier. The thirty-six treatments flew by so fast and I cannot believe that it is already over. I can confidently say that TMS WORKS! I am so appreciative to everyone at Lighthouse Mental Wellness and so grateful to Brian for encouraging me to take this big step.

My advice to anyone who is considering TMS is to do it! It changed my life in so many more ways than I ever thought were possible. I started TMS when I was 16 ½. Before that I felt hopeless. I had been on too many medications to count and none of them worked for my depression or anxiety. I had no hopes or dreams in life and for my future. My depression was so bad, I dropped out of high school, stopped socializing, lost friends and isolated myself.

At first I was scared about starting TMS. I didn’t want to get my hopes up because nothing else had worked for my depression. It was hard at first but over the span of a few weeks I started to feel less anxious all the time and happier. It became easier to do the things I used to love.

Towards the end of TMS, even other people started to notice how happy I was. I could finally laugh, make jokes and enjoy every moment. I am so much happier now. I am making plans for my future and have real ambitions and goals in my life. TMS helped me truly realize that things CAN get better.

For me, trying TMS was a very easy decision. I was unhappy with the side effects of my antidepressants. I had tried multiple ones over the last 20 years. When Brian told me about NeuroStar and TMS I didn’t hesitate to say yes. I trusted Brian and his recommendations.

The first few weeks of TMS I felt more tired at night. I took Tylenol an hour before each treatment to prevent a headache (which I was also getting from work stress). But other than that, it was fairly painless. The treatments themselves seem strange in the beginning but after the first 2 weeks they went by very quickly. After the first 4 weeks, I felt my entire mood being lifted. I felt positive. There was nothing going on in my life for me to attribute it to but TMS.

It has now been 2 weeks since my last treatment and I feel great! I am more friendly and confident in myself. My friends have noticed a difference in my mood. I wake up feeling more hopeful than I have in years.

I would recommend TMS to anyone who has dealt with depression and do not feel that medications are working. It is a treatment that is easy to do, takes only 20 minutes, and the results are amazing.

Thirty-six treatments may sound like a lot, but they go by fast and were absolutely worth it!
